Unfortunately for me, I was only in the second year of high school so I had to wait a little longer.
Fortunately, my computer - or rather the Internet - offered a temporary solution. My Sims 2 addiction made way for a new one: reading travel blogs. By the travel blogs of strangers, I did an internship in South Africa, went to a high school in America and was au pair with an Italian family. All the stories inspired me tremendously and I couldn't wait to go abroad myself for a long time. One week after my 20th birthday, the time had come and I left my home country for Spain *excuse me, Basque Country* for five months to study.
It was amazing.
Even the constant rain and my small bedroom without a window did not stop me from having the time of my life (which, by the way, was not only during this time of my life 😉). I met people from all over the world and became curious about their stories; what brought them here and how different was their life now compared to their home country? When I moved to Portugal two years later, this curiosity was only intensified.
I found, and still find, everyone's motivation to move and their experience in the new country so interesting. Everyone has their past and dreams for the future, and all of this influences the person you are today.
So...what about you?
Have you gone abroad for some months or more? Whether it's for an internship, study, (volunteer) work or a big travel ... I'm curious to hear your story! What made you decide to move abroad and how did you experience living in another country? Let me know! If you are interested in sharing your story, please send me a DM!
